Bit of a gap; exhaustion and other things on my mind.

Of New Zealand what can be said? I am awed by these mighty people in the face of horror and pain. 'Salaam Alaykum, peace be to all of us,' says their PM, while the islanders lay flowers and perform hakas in respect. The mark of a great people; all else is beyond expression.

The nobility of Jacinda Arden contrasts dramatically with the mendacity of Theresa May. To be sure, one faces national tragedy, the other national farce, but we saw the same lack of any greater quality during Grenfell. No-one likes a grubby politico, but the very least they can be is effective. Even that is beyond our hapless premier. Twice May's deal had been rejected and the third time had no chance of getting through without bribes and bullying; it was a nonsense and Bercow was right to employ the rules of the House to stop this descent into pure pork barrel. And now the right wing tabloids call him names, forgetting the kind of escalation that led to the assassination of Jo Cox. They are contemptuous and contemptible.

Speaking of farce in order to cheer myself up; I try to respect anyone who makes effort for their beliefs, but the March For Leave supporters (referred to with hashtags like 'The Wacky Racists' 'Gullible's Travels' and best of all 'The Gammonball Run') have been so determined in their dimness, conned by Nigel Farage into paying £50 a pop for the privilege of following him, that I find it hard not to laugh. Among my favourite images are those below:

They appear to be stuck on a roadside somewhere, but at least it's stopped raining.

19.07 Edited to add: Turns out the bus has betrayed them by breaking down, leaving them stranded 10 miles from their destination. I can hardly believe this perfect example of life as metaphor.
