I've offended my mother.

Not only does she want me not to be vaccinated ever again, she told me about some doctor somewhere who has studied the covid death statistics of the UK and Germany and Brazil, discovered that there are blood clots in the lungs of most/the majority/some, and therefore it's not a respiratory virus...

I asked how this doctor got hold of over at least 50,000 post mortem reports (approximately our official total) and now Mum's in a proper huff, informing me that she won't tell me anything else if this is how I am going to be about it.

I'm not going to be vaccinated until there's some certainty that a real vaccine exists, but if I don't, and if I don't get tested (an easy rule to follow in Blighty where they'd rather you just cark it quietly at home and stay off the stats) how exactly do I visit her again, in her whole life? What it means is that I probably have to get jabbed anyway then lie to her, which I hate doing. And she's not bad at seeing through that kind of thing either.

Her mobile phone is not an unalloyed blessing. Yes, we talk every day. But she also gets access to all the madness of social media, which, combined with her own issues, is a pretty heady brew.

And now she's not talking to me.

Well, let's see if things improve tomorrow.

Your mother is actually correct that scientists are no longer describing covid-19 as solely a respiratory disease. And a significant minority are describing it as a vasculotropic disease—meaning that its primary affect is upon blood vessels.

But neither of those things have anything to do with vaccine development. I mean, Hep B is a blood disease. And there is a vaccine for it.

Yes it does some weird things to clotting and can lead to pulmonary embolisms and even odder. One of our patients ended up with a one litre clot in her leg (!).
