Sleep of the Perplexed
Sep. 10th, 2020 07:29 amThat was strange. Yesterday I was so incredibly tired, my editing suffered badly; within 2 paragraphs it became clear that I couldn't do it, and will have to go over that effort again today. Then I crashed out on the sofa, waking at around 5.30 in the afternoon, going to bed around 10 and falling asleep very quickly then. This morning I was woken by the cats.
I'm still groggy but today feels better. Right now my body clock is definitely all about the mornings.
Meanwhile, Johnson continues to make a hash of everything he touches. First there's the new legislation they've been drawing up to undermine the Withdrawal Agreement he himself negotiated, forced MPs to accept without scrutiny, and kicked out of the party if they refused to back. I am astonished to see the NI secretary admit that the government will break international law, though fortunately, Nancy Pelosi's response should put that back in the bad ideas box. Then there's this business about how I can't have 6 people in my house but folk still have to go to work, presumably via crowded buses and trains, and of course schools will be full. Oh, and there are going to be covid marshals in public places to... To what? break up groups of more than 6 people? How will they do that?
Westminster gossip seems to claim that BJ is ill and will step down in 6 months time. Certainly every time I see him he seems worse, incoherent with dilated pupils and arms flailing. It would make sense for the tories to make him the scapegoat for all of this and dispense with him as soon as the issues he is connected with leave public consciousness. But for all his failures and his dislike of actual work, they'll not get rid of him so easily. He likes to be loved and right now, his failures are cast up to him every day. He'll want to have a moment of massive success or at least a massive bribe.
What an insane mess. Just thinking about it makes me tired.
