Today in PMQs Johnson referred to track and trace as one of the ‘boxing gloves’ we will use to ‘pummel this disease’.

I mean, seriously, WTF?

It really is strange, oddly infantile, language.

On a cynical level it's as though all the imagery and even the stammer-like pauses and repetitions work to delay us from observing that he has actually very little to say.  Everything is a metaphor, often the metaphor is martial, as though on some level he trusts us to respond with Pavlovian positivity to words of war. 
 
Clearly it works for some. But I can't see how rational people bear it.
