From Biden we get this:
“It’s clear that this vaccine, even if approved, would not be widely available for many months yet to come. The challenge before us right now is still immense and growing.”
From Johnson we get this:
“I have spoken before of the distant bugle of the scientific cavalry coming over the brow of the hill – today the toot of that bugle is louder”
Nanny, nanny, I want to leave the nursery. It's all very pretty but I'm in my 50s...

Johnson: Oh very well, have it your own way, she's fit that's all, just saying phwoaar corrr wurr etc, so Patrizia, may I call you Patrizia? No? Very well then, Patrizia, if you could just have a word with that excellent fellow Mr Biden, ask him to give us a ring, something's up , he hasn't, I mean he's clearly very busy and all that but if he could just, you know, give us a... just a moment on the old dog and boneOoooh bone...
Cummings: MASTERRRRRRR!
Johnson: Fine, fine, I don't know why I keep this job.
Britain: Neither do we.

This is so absolutely brilliant, it must see a wider audience.

Date: 2020-11-12 02:11 pm (UTC)On a cynical level it's as though all the imagery and even the stammer-like pauses and repetitions work to delay us from observing that he has actually very little to say. Everything is a metaphor, often the metaphor is martial, as though on some level he trusts us to respond with Pavlovian positivity to words of war.
Clearly it works for some. But I can't see how rational people bear it.
