Getting ready

smokingbootYou may recall, lj, that a week ago, maybe two, I was feeling remarkably pretty. That woman has officially left the building. Right now, I am a fright. A fine state I'm in to be visiting La Serenissima.
We are almost ready. I say 'almost.' The freaks are in good hands and all that remains now is to get our E11's stamped and actually pack. And I can't stop myself any more, I am thinking about Venice. Last time was February 2002, Carnevale. This time there will be no masks, no costumes, no vicarious and anonymous boyband style fame, no cameras pursuing us, and I wonder what remains for me to play with or dream at. Will the city be beautiful without her make-up? Absurd and shallow question. Of course she will. Which is more than can be said for this particular visitor. Bad enough that I am a rash-faced, peeling-nosed bunged-up boot, worse that I can't even put anything on my skin without it burning. Allergy or something.
Going back is always harder than trying something for the first time. I inevitably fear the loss of magic, the fading of the dream, and my worry is much greater with this most evocative and beloved memory. Still, one has to try. Here's to the return!
