May the time bring joy to those who want it!

I have wondered why divinities are often blue. Turns up all the time in hinduism of course, and the sky-goddesses known as Dakinis are blue, and some sources (haven't checked how reliable they are) cite Jehovah as going through a blue phase. Don't see how that can be right - Jehovah never manifests in human form does he? You don't see much in the way of blue people in European mythology/folklore - I can only think of one example, and that was told to me by my reader at Edinburgh University, specialising in West African studies; I have never chased it up or found its source. He claimed that in dark age/medieval Ireland, 'dubh' pronounced 'duuv' meant brunette person, black people were called blue men. I find this hard to believe; I thought the blue folk were the wode wearers, whom Graves claimed were the picts.

In other news, seeing excellent chums tonight, our familiars turn up on Friday, and my love has bought me a new pair of pvc thigh high boots. I love Halloween!

It's festival holidays right now in India. :( Halloween is coming up for us too. :)

Thanks for that information on blue people - I hvae always wondered about that too - it must be cool to look blue - okay not blue as in sick and about to throw up - but blue blue.

I used to have dreams of being deep blue with long blue-black hair, wandering across a black and white checkered floor, though I was able to fly. My interpretation would take too long, and bore you to death, but yes, wouldn't it be great if we could shape ourselves according to our dreams?

Maybe it's because the sky is blue when it's sunny?

As for the PVC boots, I'm sure that's just [livejournal.com profile] larians' self-interest motivating him. ;-P

Sunny skies

Certainly for the dakinis - and any 'heavenly' deity, it seems obvious, so obvious I'm surprised more celestials and fairies aren't depicted in the same way it just doesn't seem to turn up in Europe at all. Maybe cos sunny skies are rarer! For Krishna, called the Dark Lord, and Kali, it seems strange. She at least is meant to be black I think, but maybe I've missed something. Jehovah's a bit odd in this category, as he seems more connected with fire than sky, i.e, burning bushes etc, but then as I can't find the source for the original quote, there's not much to chase.

In my old book of dreams, blue people are a sign of indigestion!

Boots for the boot. Maybe he's trying to be poetic!
