Another great reason for getting cats

is that they stop you doing the washing up. Ralik, whose mountaineering techniques have been honed to perfection through the kindly tuition and available shoulders of Grand Uncle Bytepilot and Fairy Catmother Evilwillow, has been trying to help in the kitchen.
I don't know what's wrong with this catlet. The sight of me standing at any worksurface at all prompts either a frantic scrambling up the back of the chairs in order to get himself into a position where he can launch himself onto my shoulders...or the same but starting from the floor. In the latter case, he just hurtles himself up one's back as soon as possible, until he reaches his crowning spot; preferably one's head, but shoulders are good too. Then he cuddles up and emits great thunderpurrs, because he knows his human meeenions cannot resist them.
At first I thought this was about getting close to his food as I was preparing it. I was wrong. Ralik just likes high places; aerial bombardment is his favoured form of attack upon Surya, and indeed, everybody else. I had just filled the kitchen sink for washing up when the familiar thunk of clawing kitten hit my upper spine. Quick as a flash he crawled up and wrapped himself around my neck, gazing with worrying interest at the sink full of boiling hot water. After enjoying my pathetic attempts to remove him, he started staring at Surya with meaningful pre-battle intent, leapt down towards her and fell smack bang into her den (a cardboard box with an entrance cut in its 'ceiling,') at which point the little adventuress calmly walked across the top of it, reached a delicate little paw down and paffed his fat head.
The washing up still isn't done. But they really bring joy into the house.
I wonder where my earlier posting went?
