This morning we got 5 pints and a box of eggs. This is so strange. It's the week's delivery all together rather than split into two, and it's crazy. 5 pints of milk are not going to stay fresh for five days. I may have to freeze some of this stuff, which puts the mockers on it being quick and convenient. Am I dreaming?

Plus, the engineer who failed to fix the alarm wants another £80 to come out and fix the alarm he didn't fix in the first place. Enough. I'll talk to the company who sent him to us, and if there's a problem, we'll go elsewhere for our larger purchase of a new alarm system, though not before I tell them why. Right now feels as though the world is ever so slightly off kilter and nothing quite fits. Cousin-in-law told me that the nurses have got enough votes to strike, and I think they will, leading us on to that peculiarity of national infantilism, the deification and subsequent demonisation of nursing staff. As the meme says;

They've got my complete support, precisely because they are not angels who somehow live without need for food or sleep or a roof over their heads. If there is one downside to the UK's NHS - and indeed, all of our stuff that hasn't been privatised - it's that the average person has no idea how much it all costs. Everyone likes brass in pocket until they get run over; and then they want, need, and expect the necessary services to be there for them, sans bill at the end. Magic, you see? And someone else will always do the boring vote stuff to make sure it stays intact. R's father, a solid tory voter with a few nose-wrinklings about 'the state of nursing' a few years back, had a headache and took the ambulance to the local hospital. The cost to the NHS will have been in the £200s.

And speaking of privilege...

Yes, I hate the word when its misused as a form of bullying; code for 'given what I believe of your circumstances I have decided you should shut up.' But it is hard to avoid some snark when faced with the likes of Louise.

Lordy. So first of all, good looking child isn't she? Nothing much to her features, but great teeth, great skin. You don't get those attributes without good diet, good dentistry, good genes, you'd be hard pushed to find a set of gnashers like that in the whole of the UK prior to the 80s. Clothing looks OK too, nothing wrong with this girl's physical life, in those terms she's fine. But OK, never mind all that, she's unhappy. And when she bursts into this weird crying whine about not having a future, the sound alone makes me want to drive off into the sunset in some huge gas-guzzling car, leaving her pitiful descendents to fight in a desert over a can of beans. 'You're entitled to hate me,' she says. Oh my god, girl, nobody hates you, stop blubbering! It's just that Just Stop Oil has this specific way of protesting that annoys the hell out of everybody. No, getting everyone's attention is not enough; toddlers do that all the time, it doesn't mean they get their way. Just stop new oil and gas licences, well there's sympathy for that. What shall we do instead? Provide answers, like adults have to do. Don't just scream 'I want' and expect it to magically happen. We all want.

And speaking of what I want, I really want this pain in my chest properly gone. Time for tea.

Oh, God. I hate Louise. You'll need a driver for your big ole gas-guzzling Cadillac. 😀
