Last night I saw and wrote this;

'Just been out to see the moon tonight, and saw a strange sliver of light beneath it, strangely vertical and clear, spectral and lovely. As I watched, the night clouds moved to show me a far distant waterfall of moonlight, falling over white rapids down into a great lake and river. If I traced that river back, I could see it meandering to the South Western sky, down to our world. And I dreamed or felt that this waterfall was a place where sad and weary souls could wash away pain in a light so gentle it would soothe even the most hurt, the most harmed. Some might come back to our world, but some might go on to those other lands beyond the horizons we know. And that's true magic to me, to see and hear those things. I don't mind if no-one believes it, but I've seen them since I was a little girl.'

A sombre time. News has reached us of a suicide. The person was a LARPer, a live action role player, who played in the same world in a field as we did all those years ago, I think R knew him. I didn't, so it feels as though I have no right to any emotion over this; those people who vicariously latch on to other people's grief in order to feel something or to clasp a badge of belonging nauseate me. I learned a different way.

(Edited to add: 10.47 am 2nd December, just heard of another passing, this time due to pancreatic and liver cancer. It's the second death in two days. This was someone I knew a little better, same world in a field.)

And what is it I feel sorrow for? Their families? Their time in a fantasy we all shared? Being someone else, laughter with friends, a camp fire, beer and stories? Unknowable. I hope both are at peace, maybe each of them got to that waterfall in their turn. I hope everyone who needs it, finds it.
