Cortisone

Lordy.

The Friday before last, they gave me a cortisone - I think it was cortisone - injection into a bursal sac behind one of my achilles tendons. Hurt like hell.

Rest up they said, do nothing, no activity.
Ah, came my reply, probably walking around a stately home tomorrow, is that a problem?
Doc ponders: Umm...well OK but go slow and stop when you're tired. Avoid stairs if you can.
Tomorrow comes; Stately home not going to happen, we go to Rosslyn chapel instead, tiny, one small set of stairs, not much effort. That evening there is a moment of exertion, getting up the steps at Waverley station. Small amount of tromping around, and then Hawksmoor. The week has been almost painless, but the pain is returning, and encroaches more. Yesterday was harder. Today, no pain. But throughout it all and seemingly not changing is the phenomenal fatigue. It's insane. I have been up since 6.30 am and want to sleep again now, at 10.30 am. Everything is drowsy and half thought out. Pain does recur, to my chagrin, cos I really do not want a repeat shot.

This all feels very strange. If I was going to suffer from side effects of a cortisone shot, I would expect it to be in the days immediately after, not now. I am sitting here waiting for my cleaner to finish and leave (she's got another hour and a half!) so I can crash out. I don't know if my newly adopted diet is affecting things. Perhaps my sugar regulation's gone a bit weird. But the moment she's done, so am I.
