Awake early
Dec. 17th, 2024 04:50 amWith a head full of Tudors.
That's the power of Art.
Trying to turn my focus away from all that, there's always the House of Windsor and the gift that keeps on giving, the mess that is Andrew.
There was a time when he was the looker of the family, his mother's favourite, a playboy prince. But Windsors are spring bloomers and those with any comeliness to speak of tend to shed it early.
I recall a co-worker describing Andy and Fergie at dinner in Kensington; they ate like hogs, and were graceless to the staff. Their reputation was already set, they were all about gluttony and good times, they liked money. Not in a smart way, no; the nearest to actual smarts would be the genial grifterhood of Fergie (some Times article somewhere quotes Andrew's beholden relationship with Epstein as down to borrowing money to cover her debts) but even that's sub-par. it's not that they are mean in the way history relates meanness to, say, Henry VII. They don't grasp, they gobble. This pair seem to be forever trading on the family name in some way or other, and now Andrew's linked to Yang Tengbo the alleged Chinese spy.
To add to the fun, Andy's holed up at the 30 roomed Royal Lodge. Now, he does have the lease on the place but from his known income - he's not a working royal and gets nothing from the Sovereign Grant - he has no way of affording it. Ah but! The money has turned up from an unknown benefactor and Andrew's assured the Keeper of the Privy Purse that the funds are legit. Only this is Andy, so it's probably a favour from Dr Doom or something.

More mainstream information says that Charles would like him to just cut back, get his finances under control. Charles had a place in mind and offered it to his brother.

Others claim that Andy's thinking of removal to the Middle East where his princedom might confer some vestige of respect. The only sure bet in the whole thing is the stupidity of this man; a charitable judgement for all it sounds harsh, because if he's not utterly stupid he's utterly venal. How do you stop him from making a mess? Pay for everything. If he gets all the money he wants all the time, maybe he won't make any decisions at all. I almost feel the King's despair on this one.
