And now one of my closest friends, a trans buddy, is feeling beyond upset. There's more than one reason for it but...

I try to ignore the insanity out in the world [...] One I genuinely thought was going in the right direction back in 2007. It seemed that mental wellbeing was something that everyone cared about and inclusion was seen as relevant to progress.

I have other friends who, furious at being called TERFs and told they deserve rape and death, are giving the thumbs up to JK Rowling's little cigar and victory photo.

I have been a roaring girl all my life, up for a fight, my father's daughter. Now I am older and if not wise, at least wiser. And my answer would be that when you are drowning, the only thing you can truly observe is that you are drowning. So before you do anything else, you must get out of the water.

Then maybe when shock is abated and you are warm and dry, the landscape can be more clearly observed. This isn't code for you're wrong. It means there is more to understand in the situation.

I just this minute got my yearly covid vaccination invitation from the government, and my first impulse is to tell them they can s*d off. Fear not, those who miss old crazy me, the Fury never really dies!
Still, the greater good and all that... pfff.

Happens that I agree with Rowling about the inadvisability of female/trans-female sports competitions.

But I also believe that gender dysmorphia is a very real phenomenon—if considerably rarer than TikTok accounts would have you believe. That cigar photo was gratuitous & diminished my respect for Rowling.

Re JK Rowling's photo, it certainly didn't help 🙄 but got to admit I'd be pretty vicious given many of the tweets I've read to/ about her. There's been some utterly horrifying misogyny thrown at this person. I have faced more humane neo-nazis than some of these who threaten her with torture then turn to us saying be kind.

So if she's a bit unhinged, I get her feelings.

But still, the gesture added heat, and this doesn't need any more heat.
