The Weekend of Ooh

smokingbootThere’s so much that needs doing this morning, and here I am tapping out my LJ instead. I am indeed an idle wazzock. But I am a happy idle wazzock, and I just have to write about it a teeny bit. Then I’ll be good.
We spent the weekend at the house of Far Too Talented and Queen of Rugby. We ate and drank too much, slept barely at all, talked deep into the night about subjects profound and not so, and roleplayed. Before we even started, Far Too Talented showed us the portraits he had done of all the characters, as well as the group shot he had put together. No-one asked him to do this, any more than we had asked him to find theme tunes for us all, but he did, because his brain never stops and he is clearly off the wall in the best possible way!
In terms of glorious intensity and sheer wear and tear on bods/nervous systems, it had all the hallmarks of an event without any of the bad bits. We were playing Beloved Bear’s AD&D campaign, and my character died. She was an Uruk, and her death was a good one. I will miss her but she wouldn’t have had it any other way, and the depth of feeling her ending elicited left me all happy and humble. They liked my roleplay! They liked my character! They cried! They cared!
Beloved Bear has taken the miniature of Hrunga (that’s her name obviously) and stuck it on top of the huge chunk of agate on our mantelpiece. In terms of scale it looks as though she’s climbing a huge cliff. Doesn’t go with anything else and I suppose I’ll have to take it off…tomorrow. Or sometime!
It’s been such a good weekend, but I knew it was going to be good on Friday, the most important day of the last seven. Things would have been very different if on Friday at the hospital I hadn’t heard the sweetest word in the world:
‘Benign.’
Life is sweet. Bring it on!
