Played Vampire last night, and it sparked me up, chasing me out of a somewhat blah mood. AE’s world, these characters, the storytelling, it’s sometimes very dark, sometimes very funny, and hits the spot every time!

Today good things happened. The guttering got sorted, and our yule tree is up, though it’s a bit minimalist for my liking. The decorations are all shades of white and gold, and it’s colour co-ordinated to the point of arboreal anaemia. Less elegance, more things I say! More Christmas stockings and reindeer, stars and presents and angels and owls and ent-faces and fairies and violins and boots and robins and holly and harlequins and toy soldiers and above all, lots and lots of shiny stuff! The best thing about the tree is the fleet of white UFOs currently docked among its branches, cloaked as outsize floral lights. I’m not so easily fooled, and look forward to Christmas morning when the mothership will arrive driven by Santa. I love this time of year!

Now I am about to go a bit Bonnie Tyler (I’m so sorry, but I’m still going to do it) to such an extent I think I may have to lock this post. Certainly the LJ cut will make its appearance yet again.

Part of my good mood comes down to having spent a wonderful night with my Beloved, but also, I’m remembering a drunk conversation when a chum asked me if I believed in love that wasn’t physical, a different kind of love based on likeness of, oh I don’t know (pissedness reigned supreme at this point), idea, dream, something intangible and intrinsic, whatever it is that makes the core within. The kind of love that doesn’t intrude on the love which sustains you and brings you home right here and now. These two don’t get in each other’s way, and one is no greater than the other. Friendship of so deep a kind it shines in your soul as bright as Romeo and Juliet. Cupid and Psyche/ Eros and Agape? Both, either, neither, don’t know. Can’t define it. Only know it’s real, and it’s fantastic, and I am privileged to bump into so much of it in the people around me.

There are so many different kinds of love, but I think I know the one that chum was talking about, and trying to describe it is a waste of time. Like the love that makes us all sweat, it's eclipse feels like death, the sun at the centre going out forever. The shadow inches past for what seems like a lifetime...then comes the phoenix and dawn, a different day, just as beautiful as the ones committed to memory. Unbelievable. Wonderful.Real.

Here’s to love, friendship, ufos and yule. May your trees groan with non colour co-ordinated goodies, and may all your frights make good stories afterwards.

Yes, I am feeling inspired a la mush tonight. No, I am not even remotely drunk/herbally half-witted!
