So!

Furious at lj eating my last post, I followed the example of some chums and checked out Myspace.

I have found hundreds upon hundreds of pictures, video clips and adverts, and sought, in futile hope, for something vaguely resembling the written word.

Didn't find a single blog. Am hoping this is because maybe they are friends locked. Please don't tell me that I've stumbled across the biggest evah pikchaboek for 20 somethings. I found myself in a strange desert place, thinking please, someone write something...I like writing. Am I alone? (alone...alone...alone!) Someone speak to me! (Eak to me...eak to me..eak to me...)

So I'll stick with lj for now, despite its occasional naughtiness.

But one thing at least must change about my web meanderings. My freeserve account is getting spammed to death. Anyone know how I can get a gmail address or some other that's good and free?

Thanks for any help you can give.

I've sent you a gmail invite. It will get spam, too, but there's lots of space for it (and, of course, the spam recipes).

There are some wonderful blogs 'out there', but you won't find them on Myspace.

I have taken advantage of your invitation, thank you!

The strangest thing has happened. I created a new account because Alikelystory was taken, and I wasn't so sure about inserting numbers instead of letters - it's just not easy on the eye, or at least not on my eye.But no good. Somehow, I need my likelystory in there somewhere. Is it possible for me to start another account now that I have one?

You can add another e-mail address for that account and call it whatever you like, but the e-mail I had from you looks okay. Did you get it sorted out?

Yep, all sorted, thanks. Now I have to start using it!

Don't leave LJ! I would miss your whimsical musings! And especially don't go to Myspce if it's like that. I would have to follow you, retching all the way.

Gmail rocks! I actually have three accounts. One for chums (r4venqueen at gmail dot com) one for anything work and business related, and one for buying things on line, which is where all the spam then goes. Their spam filter has never yet let me down on the personal account and I now live a life blissfully ignorant of the availability of viagra, penis enlargement and the numerous unsavoury varieties of pron.

Google homepage is also good. You can put horoscopes and moon phases, a word of the day to enlarge your vocabulary, newsfeeds, jokes and links to all your fave sites and hundreds of other amusing little things to eat up a spare minute or two.

Thanks for all this info. I've created a new account courtesy of Semyaza's invitation (I'm shesetsail@googlemail) now I have to learn how to use the site.

With my savvy and expertise, this could take a couple of years...

...shesetsail@googlemail.com of course.

This could be a long, long day!

I have a yahoo mail account, and have had no problems. I still get spam, but the spam filter is really dood, so I hardly ever see it.

Yes, I have to be organised and set up filters. Can you believe I don't know how to do this? someone has always done it for me!

My Yahoo account does it automatically. No need for me to understand anything. Really is very good.

I agree that yahoo has very good spam filters-I never see any there.

Myspace is...bizarre. I think it is often a place for people to have a 'presence' online when they have nothing interesting to do show or say. There do some to be a few advantages for people with bands. Overall though it just seems to be one big namecheck. I have a myspace, but hardly bother with it.

I must admit that the big advantage to me of LJ is the community aspect-its easy to make new friends and to engage with people in meaningful ways. I like that.

Myspace is great for browsing unsigned bands. It's rubbish at everything else, and is essentally LJ with stabilisers. I have a myspace to point people to my LJ and to let me browse bands.

Maybe I ought to check out more new music; I'm so lazy, and the thing is that when I write, I don't like music playing, or indeed any noise really. I can just about tolerate thunder (good thing as those b*st*rds never turn it off no matter how much I complain) but in the end, for work I need silence.
The result is I neglect music, and I think I'm poorer for that.

So maybe I can find a use for myspace after all!

LJ is being a wascally wabbit, and not letting me place answers for [profile] hybridartifacts under the appropriate comment!

One more try then: I've been trying to work out why I like lj as opposed to other forms of blogging, and it is the communal aspect, and the ability to make friends through mutual interests. For all its faults, lj is an interesting place. Myspace looks interesting...and then just isn't. But that's just me I guess.

Congratulations on getting a gmail account - I was about to send you an invite when I saw someone had already done so. The search facility on email is great!

Yes, I have opened one, but I don't empathise with the name! It's too romantic! Do I need an invitation to open another account now I've started?

I guess you could send yourself an invite.

If you can't let me know and I will send you another invite.

I have done just that! Now I have two accounts, and a freeserve account I am sentimentally attached to, so it all has great potential for being deeply silly. I look forward to using that search facility though, now I just need to find it!

*laughs at idiot self*

I still have my freeserve account open although it is full of spam and rubbish.

I've recently been getting tons of spam on my Yahoo account.

I copy everything I blog on LJ on my Myspace blog. Most of my friends have moved there and many blog too. Check me out if you want- imthelorax22.

I like Myspace for getting in touch. People can search for everyone that went to a certain high school during certain years. I like this.

*LOL* When I remember my school years, I shudder at the thought of being contacted by others from that time! We were monsters!

I'll have to check it out more. Is there a major difference between blogging and lj?

In my mind, LJ is blogging, though I may have my definitions wrong. I think blogging on LJ is more user friendly because anyone can comment, and it shows when someone replies to your comment, where it doesn't on Myspace. I like both though, for the sake of keeping in touch with people who have both. I have Xanga too. Same reason. Small blogging addiction perhaps.
