Anne of Green Guildford

Surrey at the weekend was full of rain and flowers and friends and good food. A nine year old denizen of the house presented me with her favourite book, Anne of Green Gables, and we had plenty to talk about cos Anne Shirley was one of my childhood heroines too. As Anne of Avonlea and Anne of the Island are out of the library, she's jumped from the first book to the one where, to quote her, 'Anne becomes a doctor because Gilbert's no good at it.'

I don't recall this variant on the story, but look forward to hearing how it works out.
