Johnson's got Covid-19? It is very sporting of anyone to believe him. Of course he could be telling the truth, he could have it, it could be tremendously serious. But it never does to forget that Boris lies about everything; it isn't even a political statement, it is an aspect of his personality declaimed by friends, foes, employers, in fact pretty much everyone associated with him. Secondly, I know a bit about theatre craft; he gets a dog at the right time, his girlfriend gets pregnant at the right time, he gets ill now, and very soon the whole 'Battling Boris' act will begin. Thirdly, this news takes heat off the Ventilator business. Some gentle person could say to me, 'you'd be sorry if he died from it.' Well, of course I would. I'm not going to rejoice at anyone suffering. But I'm not going to pretend he's a good man out of misguided sympathy.

We had a little online party in Google Hangouts last night, to celebrate Russ' birthday. It was weirdly awkward at first, with people getting used to the tech, but it turned into a fab wee evening. There was a certain American there, in her fabulous headwear! If I ever do one of these hangout things for myself, I may well insist that everyone wears hats. Hats make everything better.
