Knock knock

I heard it twice, got up to see who was at the door knowing that nobody could be there because it was before dawn. Thought about it, went back to bed, thoroughly awake.

The old story came back, straight out of the old country, about what it means to hear that knock; someone's getting ready to leave. You don't answer the door, they have to stay and fight on.

Or it could be the ghost of Surya, as my cat sitter believes.

Or it could be various bits and pieces in the house doing creaky things, which I choose to believe the moment I am feeling vulnerable, when a fun story matters less than not scaring myself to bits.

I am so snowed under with work, so mentally exhausted, I can barely write here.

But all these things have an end, so I just need to keep going.

I think it's in the house/on the roof. So pipes maybe or wooden bannisters/floors creaking away.
