The Hand of Fate

R is sick again, worse than before. Last time I thought it was Covid and he didn't. This time he thinks it is Covid. It's unpleasant and come on very fast. What this means is that his little surprise for me - a couple of days on Great Cumbrae - must be dropped and picked up again some other time. I am disappointed but have decided to treat it as the hand of fate. Maybe we'd have been mauled by seals or something.

Did folk horror teach us nothing?

Don't pick it up, don't talk to it, and for god's sake don't take it home.

I just love the way she asks it for details. What would she do if it spoke back?

'Who are you ?'

'I am in no way Pazuzu.'

'Doesn't Pazuzu have wings?'

'Yes, hence my lack of Pazuzu-ness.'

'So you're not flightless Pazuzu?'

'I am in no way flightless Pazuzu.'

'That wouldn't make sense anyway, Pazuzu's a wind demon right?'

'That's right. There is no evidence of Pazuzu-like winds around us right now.'
