It has finally happened; two showreels are being created for me, and I am going to need a web page; something on which I can put showreel material plus possibly more footage later, text and a photo portfolio. I haven't a clue where to begin and I am brassic. Can anyone help please? I would be very grateful for advice etc, but I understand if everyone's too busy.

The cheap / free option is to do it via Facebook (set up a 'Fan' page) or MySpace, and host the videos on YouTube / Vimeo, and the photos on either the site, or somewhere like Flickr.

With the F+D website, leaving design costs alone (because they're mostly time rather than money) our costs are about £60 / year, including host name purchasing and hosting by a web-company.

I'd be happy to chat about how I've done things over a pint if that would help?

There's nothing much I can add to this save that I'm more familiar with "professionals" using MySpace than I am with them using Facebook so I'd advise using the former.

I would like that very much:-) The guy putting it all together is asking me if I want a website name on the captions, I'll ask him if he could add it on after he's finished editing.

I am a bit sick right now but am on antibis, so expect to be up and around within a few days. When is good?

With regard to costs.

If you go for MySpace, then you'll have a URL something like myspace.com/SmokingBoot (pretty much whatever you want after the slash) which won't cost you a penny. And as Bin says, a lot of people in the media use Myspace. The cost (such as it is) is that it's a social networking site, and therefore theres a time implication in it - posting blog messages, commenting on other people's sites, cultivating friends etc.

The other problem with MySpace is that it's quite difficult to make it look fantastic, and quite easy to make it look rubbish.

For the £60 / year, we're getting several domains (flay-deville.com, flay-deville.co.uk, irrepressible-events.com, irrepressible-events.co.uk etc) as well as the web hosting. We could probably get it cheaper than that, or more likely, get more features for the same price. However, more features isn't a great use unless you have someone able to exploit those features.

I'd agree with John - MySpace is probably the place to go; I think they have various options for meeja pages.

Wordpress makes it very easy to make your own website. I use that.
Also - more than happy to help with photos.
